Programs

CAMPUSTOWN cfic

Campustown is a cultural awareness and prejudice reduction program for college students. In a three-day residential setting, students and staff from diverse backgrounds examine personal and institutional biases and prejudice. Participants develop empathy and gain a deeper understanding, appreciation and respect for people from all cultures, races, religions and other diversities.

Campustown challenges participants to leave their “comfort zone,” and empowers them to take action by creating a campus community that is inclusive of all people!

C.I.C. – CREATING INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES cfic

C.I.C. is a powerful interactive human relations program for students, educators, business professionals and members of the community interested in gaining greater awareness and deeper understanding of our demographically changing community.

C.I.C. participants examine personal and societal stereotypes, biases, and prejudices and gain the knowledge and skills to forge meaningful intergroup relationships.

C.I.C. inspires participants to build compassion, empathy and inclusion into their personal and professional lives. Business professionals discover new ways to create safe, welcoming and respectful workplace cultures.

C.I.C. workshops are available in half, full or multi-day formats, and are designed to fit the specific needs of the participating group, organization or business.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend your 1 day CIC workshop.  The more I reflect on the experience, the more convinced I am that it was the best experience I've had in eight years as a teacher. That's not hyperbole either. The whole day really affected me, and I'm already looking at the rest of the school year differently because of your workshop. I needed something like this to give me a new vision. Thanks a million times for the opportunity.”

~Bryant B., MPS Educator

DIFFERENT AND THE SAME cfic

Different and the Same is an interactive, video-based program designed to educate children in grades K-3 on difficult diversity issues that exist within the elementary school environment.

Different and the Same gives educators the tools and resources to initiate discussions with children about acceptance, fairness, inclusion and respect.

“I have worked in social services with adolescents for well over 20 years and the programs sponsored by CFIC are some of the best I have ever encountered.  To watch humans grow and mature right before your eyes is precious and rare - but CFIC makes it happen each and every time.  I have witnessed people become leaders in the fight for human rights and dignity because not only do they receive an experience that is powerful and life-changing but they discover the strength within themselves and become empowered to take action in their schools and communities.”

~Debbie Finnicum, Douglas County West Community Schools

HUMAN RELATIONS 101 cfic

Human Relations 101 is a free one-hour presentation for anyone interested in an overview of social justice and human relations issues and common language as it relates to our increasingly diverse community. The presentation also includes information about the Conference for Inclusive Communities’ current work, programs, events and volunteer opportunities.

IncluCity I (formerly Anytown) cfic

IncluCity I is a cutting-edge, time-tested, human relations and leadership program for high school students. In a week-long summer residential setting, students take important steps in confronting bigotry and discrimination.

IncluCity I is a safe and respectful environment, where students: examine their own biases and prejudices; discover ways to dismantle stereotypes; build lasting cross-cultural relationships; learn ways to peacefully resolve conflict; and become allies for one another.

IncluCity II (formerly Unitown) cfic

IncluCity II is a four-day residential leadership experience that brings 60 students and additional staff from selected high schools together to engage in honest dialogues around issues of difference (race, culture, faith, class, sexual orientation, age, appearance and ability).

IncluCity II participants focus on learning skills to confront and challenge prejudice, bias and stereotyping. The program encourages students to take personal responsibility in creating safe, welcoming and respectful schools and communities.

IncluCity Middle cfic

IncluCity Middle is a year-long human relations awareness, skill-building and leadership program for middle school students designed to help them understand their role and responsibility in creating an inclusive school culture.  Through a carefully planned curriculum, students and staff will gain new insights, increased awareness and deeper understanding around issues regarding appearance, class, race, faith, ability, and other diversities.  This innovative program enables students to recognize negative stereotypes, biases, prejudice and discrimination and how they can adversely impact their personal and student lives, as well as their school culture. Ultimately, students will learn new ways to build healthy relationships that are based on fairness, compassion, empathy and respect, and help reduce incidents of bullying and harassment.

“CFIC and the work they do with our youth is imperative, powerful, and will be the catalyst for change in our community. Inclucity strengthens leaders, builds human relationships, and creates bridges over the gaps of differences.”

~Jessica Brashear, OPS Personal/Social Counselor

LUNCH’N LEARN cfic

Lunch’n Learn is a series of dialogue meetings open to the public, which raises awareness and educates around social justice issues impacting our community. Distinguished guest speakers present insight, expertise and differing perspectives - creating a productive dialogue that supports an inclusive and just community.

SERVICE LEARNING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (SLIP)  cfic

CFIC’s Internship program is a valuable character, leadership and skill building opportunity available to a diverse group of high school students from across the Omaha metropolitan area that have participated in IncluCity I or II.  This Service Learning experience is designed to foster leadership by linking what our youth learn in the classroom to the life skills they will need in order to be productive and successful in the workplace and the community.  By interacting with CFIC, students will be better prepared for future roles as active and engaged citizens.

“My Service Learning Internship Program has given me valuable skills that I don’t think I would have learned anywhere else.  During my internship, I’ve been able to use the curriculum learned from school, home and life, by applying it in everyday uses.  I now have a better understanding of budgets, marketing, facilitation, group management, human relations, non-profit operation, but mostly, I have a deeper connection and passion for combating social justice and inequality.  In short, I’ve become a more influential leader.”
~Lindsey Finochiaro, Service Learning Intern
